Journal Entry: Jerrold Maurer-04/07/2025-Journal # 24 – Kind Campers and Gratitude

Journal Entry

After playing the best tennis match of my life here at Otisville, one of the campers who watched the whole match says to me with another friend watching, “You are the most consistent player here”. I take that as a huge compliment.

I am so grateful to have the opportunity to meet good people here, learn from them, have fun with them, play tennis with them, break bread with them, celebrate Shabbat with them, pray with them, exercise with them, work with them, and kibbitz for hours with them and also make real friendships with a lot of them. But the most important lesson I’ve learned thus far is to reflect daily and grow from my experience. Life is what we make of it.

A good friend said, living here at the Camp is the closest it literally is to being in biblical times. I have all of the time in the world to learn more about my faith, and to learn to have Emuna and Bituchon (faith and trust) in Hashem, to learn to pray for what I want yet to also pray to Hashem for the gratitude I have for everything.
