Title and Author: Born Again, Charles W. Colson

I decided to read Born Again as I was very interested in learning how one of Richard Nixon’s high profile White House aides who was indicted as part of Watergate then served 8 months in a prison yet found religion and his life’s purpose.

When I finished reading Born Again, I felt a true sense of accomplishment I haven’t felt in a very long time. I’ve always had a barrier in my mind that said “Why start reading a 379 page book when you know you’ll never finish it?” So, what seemed insurmountable to me now seems possible! Removing barriers in life comes in all types and this one, completing a 379 page book, tells me I can do it again and again and again.

I’ve always wanted to fulfill my life by reading more, and now I know I can do it!

Another way this book will help me upon my release is that I now have a renewed belief and faith in prayer. Prayer can be silent or said out loud or a variation of the two. Reading Born Again, and reading the many stories about how consistent prayer has helped others is truly inspiring.

Lastly, being willing to change despite being convicted of a crime and serving 8 months in prison is the overwhelming lesson I’ve learned by reading Born Again. If Charles Colson, a highly educated White House aide known for being a ruthless tactician for then President Richard Nixon, could be convicted of a crime and come through the other side better for it with a strong sense of purpose of helping others (with their faith), I believe I can change for the better and find my purpose.
