Angela M Robbins-10/09/2024-ACT WorkKeys

Journal Entry

The ACT testing agency that created the tests for high school graduates looking to go to college also has a program called ACT WorkKeys. It is a program that employment agencies use to train employees for clerical work in order to provide a more educated and capable workforce. ACT issues nationally recognized certificates that the employment agencies use to know at what skill level their employees can perform.

I began this class over six weeks ago, but due to the inconsistent schedules of teachers and the facility in general, we finally got the results back of our pre-test. (The tests are sent out to ACT to score.) Each skill level is issued a “metal” designation that correlates with the Olympic level of success – Bronze, Silver, Gold. There is also a Platinum level, for those who can simply test out of the 30 hour class.

Today I was so happy to receive my certificates for the Platinum level! Now I can begin the second set of classes, known as the Tessera level. This second level of classes is designed to go into work place ethics, responsibility, working in teams, business communication, and interpersonal skills. I am so eager to begin the next phase and leave prison with this certificate that employment agencies can use to show I will be a good employee. I whole heartedly believe it will help to reassure any employer that, despite missing 30 years in the workforce, I might be a good candidate for employment. Accomplishing this only serves to further encourage me to continue educating myself and preparing myself for a future release!
