How am I serving my community?
Everyday I am blessed to wake up to, I strive to be the man that God created me to be. I hear the complaints from the men I live with about a broken system, and believe me I have my own as well. I’m not saying that we don’t live in a country that has a broken system, I do my best to help others see that by being the change that we want to see we can and will have an impact in this world.
I’m determined to stay on a path that shows society and my community that change is possible, change for the better of self and for others no matter what walk of life you come from. I heard a quote from one of the guest speakers at the Threshold graduation that stuck with me “your past does not predict you future” and for me that is the truth. I’ve made bad decisions in my life that have caused me to experience the consequences that I’m currently dealing with. They do not define me.
I’ve learned that time is the most precious thing that we have in this life, I refuse to waste anymore of it on anything that isn’t for the better of myself and others. For us to make a difference it does start with working on ourselves first, it takes determination, there will be plenty of “road blocks” we can’t allow small obstacles to stop us from being better for us and our community. It’s a struggle, the road is difficult, it’s worth it though.
