The changes in America’s prison system I would like to implement:
I have always thought that the prison system is a place for rehabilitation and correction. What should be implemented is, just like a public school system. With educators and TRUE professionals who have the want to take care of and treat our faults.
There are 2nd, 3rd, and 4th time offenders who will enter prison and leave prison while a first time offender remains incarcerated. Many first time offenders are not given an opportunity to better themselves and leave prison for a second chance at life.
First Step Act or any other “Act”, should be for those who are truly doing something and showing the change in themselves, proving they are a ZERO risk of recidivism.
I would implement ways to help those who have dedication to bettering themselves and turning over a new leaf. Finding ways to help them achieve their goals, and release them early on an ankle monitor (depending their living situation and if they choose), and give them an opportunity to prove themselves, with the possibility of returning to prison if they reoffend or commit a new crime, that would add time to their current sentence.
