I’ve started to settle into a pretty good routine here at Danbury. At first I couldn’t stand it. Everything is so different from Lompoc. But I’m starting to see that this is what I needed. My time in Lompoc went by fast, because I stayed so busy. I had the best job on the compound as a grade 1 in commissary, I had a great work out schedule, I made great money through work and running a sports ticket, and I got to play music a few times a week. I also made some very good connections and learned a lot from people that do what I want to do in the real world. But what I didn’t have time to do was read and write and prepare for actually executing my plans when I get out. This morning I’ve been thinking about the positive ways life has changed since I moved. For one, I met the guy that introduced me to Prison Professors Talent at the Victorville hold-over. The emails have inspired me to read more books that will help me get to where I want to be in life, but also to write about and keep track of what I read, which helps so much. Also, going from having a full schedule to no schedule has reminded me that I need to be flexible and prepared to adapt in life. Better to go with the flow and figure out new ways to thrive than stress over changes that are going to happen wether I like them or not. Now every morning before everyone else is awake I’m reading and taking notes, or working on my business plan. I am thankful that I was somewhere where I could support myself for that period of time, but now that I’m getting short I am far better off being where I am now so I can better prepare for my life after this.
