Today’s date is September 4th 2024 and I feel I need to submit my first journal entry. My projected release date is June 19th 2034. Since it is never too early to prepare for success upon release I wanted to lay out a few of my weaknesses that I need to improve upon. I believe by journaling my weaknesses it will hold me accountable in taking the necessary steps toward improvement.
One of my biggest weaknesses is my lack of an advanced education. I have a high school diploma but will need to build on that to ensure future success. Public speaking is another weakness of mine. Sometimes my face will flush when I am put on the spot and have to speak in a class or group setting where I do not know everyone in the room. I believe my writing ability is a weakness as well. I have difficulty sentences together to truly show what I mean to say. Lastly, making good use of all of my available time is a weakness of mine that could use improvement as well.
I’ve been addressing the above weaknesses by taking college courses through Allan Hancock Community College and taking any available prison programs. I plan on working toward a business degree to show that I’ve made use of my time and prison and also to help me find employment once I am released. Reading aloud during classes helps me to get over my fear of public speaking. Expanding my vocabulary and reading more often will help me with my writing skills. To make better use of my time I will begin making daily to-do lists to ensure that I focus on the things I mean to get done. I have more weaknesses than those stated above but I feel these are ones I can begin working to improve right away.
