Journal Entry: Jerrilee Barajas-08/28/2024-Opportunity Costs

Journal Entry

For me the way I am memorializing my journey is through my hand written journal, and leading by example. Being a role model to others. I listen to people, as I am a psychology companion, of their frustrations, their struggles, and what works or don’t work on the compound. I try to piece together different strategies that could help rehabilitate our community/compound, and reduce recividism. Its amazing how many individuals want to be sober and stray sober but do not have the tools or knowledge to do so. The way we live day to day, the way we speak, and act are a model to one another. So I do my best to lead by example be kind assertive and respectful so I can be a good role model to others around me. I hear people ask why are they putting a known current drug user in our sober room, or this angry person in our calm peaceful room. I tell them they do it in hopes that we lead by example that we can plant seeds of change and encourage our fellow mates to do better, to work towards change, to learn from us. If only we see that we can make it happen.
