The Mirror
When you look in the mirror what do you see?
Is is a picture of the real you,
or just a mask of the person you’re pretending to be.
Does looking in that mirror cause you to smile?
or does it make you pause and think for a lil while?
The image in that mirror, is it a facade you portray
to hide yourself from what others may say.
IF you stare at it long enough does the mirror talk back?
Reminding you of the many qualities that you think you lack.
Does shame and guilty cause you to look away
Do remorse and regret cause you to stray?
Are you plagued by what others have said
Do you look in that mirror and wish you were dead
I know how it f eels, I’ve been there many times
glaring at that glass, staring, just looking for signs
wanting and waiting for a glimmer of hope
something, anything that will help you cope.
The past still haunts you and you cant let go,
so that damn mirror becomes the devil you know.
But friend, I promise you that mirror isn’t to blame
the fault lies in the acceptance you refuse to claim
Denial is safe and an easy place to live
But Jesus is real, and has ready to forgive
your past wiped clean, forgotten, and gone
He said it best, it is finished, it it done.
he paid for our sins, his life sacrificed for ours
He died on that cross and relieved us of our scars
His love is true and endures forever
Those chains you are dragging, has waiting to sever.
His love washes you clean, you’ll be white as snow
a relationship with him is the only way you’ll grow.
He’ll love you through it, when you can’t love enough
To give yourself grace when times get rough
It won’t always be easy, at times things will be hard
but with Jesus as your savior, You’re life he’ll always guard.
That image in the mirror will most certainly change,
never again will the devil take center stage
With Jesus as your guide, that mirror will begin to show you
how far you’ve come and all you have yet to do
His love is steadfast, honest and true
so wipe that mirror clean and start your life anew.
