Journal Entry

Once again, visit day, could not wait this morning to see my mom and “mima” which is what I call my grandmother. Thankfully they were able to get in before the morning count. The visiting room was hot with no a/c, and no drinks either. Two portable a/c units and two fans filled the space with some cold air, but the heat that is extracted from the a/c units was also blowing into the space and the visiting room was extremely uncomfortable. Families were leaving faster than it took them to get in. Thankfully the officer in charge would move the fan here and there so everyone could get some air, and I could not be more grateful than I was that my family was with me no matter what. It was nice also that the Chaplain that was on duty came by to visit me and met my family, he spoke good things about me to them, which made my mom emotional. One hour left for visit to close, we decided to get up and head out, it was already too unbearable. I was strip searched and headed back to the dorm where I filled up my two water bottles and drank as much water as I could. After 4 pm count, I went over to the chapel for Spanish Christian service, where I sang a song with the “band” that we have here, so that was special. A volunteer visited and was the one to preach. Once over, we all headed back to our dorms, where I was stopped by another inmate asking for help with visiting papers and “cop-outs”, then went over to help an elderly man with his drug education booklet to help him understand what he is to be filling out. My day seemed to have been nonstop today, but I know that I will fall asleep quickly right after 10 pm count and be up tomorrow ready for the commissary run.
