PSAP Lesson 30 -Integrity and building trust
– I understand the concept of integrity as being honest to yourself above all else. Making sure your actions align with your beliefs, and trusting that your actions will ensure you are achieving and living by your words.
– Integrity is important for personal growth and development because until you are true to yourself, you are unable to really be true to anyone else. In the situation of imprisonment you will be tested in many ways, shapes and forms. If you can stand true to your beliefs and your abilities ; not allowing others to stray you, your development and personal growth is then improving and turning you into who you need to be.
-A situation here where acting with integrity helped me maintain my values and contributed to my personal growth was a situation where another female was complaining about the facility not doing anything to help her. I let her complain and listened to her concerns, but then I asked what she was doing to change her situation. She began again telling me the roadblocks and why she felt she was stuck. I let her know I understood what she was saying, but what was she doing to better herself? We can all complain , but until we begin taking actions those complaints are doing nothing but dragging us down.
– Living with integrity can help prepare for a successful life after release, because with integrity you are not willing to allow your values to be tested. You know what you stand for and why you stand for it. You will not allow others to take that away from you. If you are strong in what you believe, you stand true to your values, it will not matter how many obstacles you face because you will keep getting up and keep moving towards success for yourself.
– The strategies you can employ to cultivate and demonstrate integrity during your imprisonment are making ethical decisions, being reliable, being consistent, being accountable, being responsible, building trust and maintaining your character.
