In verse 12, Peter reminds us that the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are attentive to their prayers. This reassures me that my faith and the choices I make matter. As the passage progresses, Peter speaks about the importance of suffering for doing good and being prepared to give an account for our hope. Verse 18 introduces the profound concept of Christ’s suffering for our sins, contrasting His innocence with our guilt. This verse serves as a reminder of the incredible sacrifice Christ made for us, offering redemption and forgiveness. It encourages me to be grateful for this gift and to seek to live a life worthy of such a sacrifice.
The final verses emphasize the transformative power of baptism and the conscience’s role in our relationship with God. They suggest that our salvation is not merely a matter of external rituals but a sincere commitment to God in our hearts.
