“If you don’t like things the way they are, then it’s up to you to change them”
- 7:30-10am ICEV VA1 class. Schedules have changed: We must give laptops back at 10am and can’t check them out until noon and must give them back at 2pm. I’m now losing 2.5hrs each day in my coursework.
- Went to lunch (KDP) and went to my dorm.
- Worked on my Release Plan.
- CBB class from 2:15-3pm.
- Michael Santos’s PSAP course I completed early this year was when I first thought deeply about my values.
Questions like these were never asked of me before incarceration. I wanted to share them with you here, in noparticular order. These are my values:
God/Spirituality
Family/Relationships
Education
Strong Support System
Society/Community
The Environment/Conservation/Sustainability
Financial Stability
- For an introspection activity, I thought of my relationships and support system like a tree: My husband has been the trunk of my tree – sturdy and supportive.
God would be the roots.
The sturdy healthy branches are my best friendships – those who haven’t left me and branch in different directions because they’re each different in their ways of life, careers and desires, locations, etc.
The leaves…would be those who are in my life for a limited time – some stay green and healthy but life turns them yellow to orange and red because our time together is limited. Sadly, the wind blows them away for whatever reason. Some brown (unhealthy/toxic) and they die and drop off. They fall to the ground and become fertilizer for new and better enrichment for the soil my tree grows in.
- Made some pop-up Easter cards for people and a couple of Mother’s Day cards. -I absolutely love our new Job app on our tablets. Little by little I’ve been building my resume off of memory.
