Today was my graduation ceremony! The first one since last year’s graduation from the Horizon program, which was wonderful. This time, I graduated with my Health and Wellness Certification. There was music, sweet treats, beautiful Spring decorations (including my poster displayed on one wall), and everyone was in a great mood. A few people danced and had a great time. Families and friends came and sat in rows behind us. Author Jennifer Spears was our special guest speaker and there were speeches from the warden, colonel, and others. I walked across the floor, received my certificate, and shook hands with a very long line of staff. Unfortunately, most of us only got 5 minutes to eat all of our sweets before being kicked out – some hadn’t even received their food yet. We also didn’t receive our cup of (real!) coffee that we were SO looking forward to, as we were being rushed out. It was a disappointment for us, as we worked hard to earn it.
I’ll be attending the next graduation ceremony for the ICEV Nutrition certification I just earned and for the Courage For My Life class I’m currently enrolled in. The way I choose to spend my time (and life in general) is to do the next right thing. I know my long-term goals and sub-goals that will take me there. For now, I just focus on the next thing.
My husband and best friends were happy to hear all about the ceremony later and I sent them all a photo of my beautiful hairdo someone did for me (a former adversary offered, which was very kind), holding up my latest certificate.
I’m so excited to start my Veterinary Assisting Part I class on the ICEV laptop class in Education tomorrow!
I’m proud to say that my dorm had the most graduates at the ceremony! We were all exhausted when we returned, but in great spirits in spite of the normal negatives of prison.
Had my Senior Coordinator meeting at Classification and the next leaders were drawn at random. I brought paperwork back to the dorm and spoke with each new leader who’ll shadow the current ones until we pass them the baton on Monday. I met with the new SC to help her get prepared.
