Journal Entry for 4/1/2024 through 4/7/2024
April 1, 2024:
Today marked the beginning of a new chapter for me as I started my journey at Heavy Equipment Operating School. The day kicked off promptly at 8 a.m., and we had scheduled 5-10 minute breaks interspersed throughout the day, along with an hour-long lunch break at noon. After resuming classes at 1pm, we wrapped up around 5 p.m.
The focus of this week has been on delving into the CORE: Introduction to Basic Construction Skills 6th edition textbook. I’ve been diligently studying and absorbing the content from various modules:
- Monday 4/1/24 Building Your Future in Construction
- Monday 4/1/24 Basic Safety
- Tuesday 4/2/24 Introduction to Construction Math
- Tuesday 4/2/24Introduction to Hand Tools
- Wednesday 4/3/24 Introduction to Power Tools
- Wednesday 4/3/24 Construction Drawing
- Thursday 4/4/24 Basic Rigging
- Thursday 4/4/24 Communication Skills
- Friday 4/5/24 Employability Skills
- Friday 4/5/24 Test on modules 1, 2, 3
- Saturday 4/6/24 worked on homework 6 a.m. —12 p.m. on what I learned Monday through Wednesday
- Sunday 4/7/24 worked one homework 6 a.m.—12 p.m. on what I learned Thursday through Friday
Today was particularly intense as we were tested on the first three modules. Despite the pressure, I’m confident in my performance and eagerly awaiting my scores.
After class, my day doesn’t end. I devote several more hours in the evening, typically until 8 p.m. or 9 p.m., to reviewing and mastering the material covered in class. It’s a rigorous schedule, but I’m fully committed to my learning journey and excited about the progress I’m making.
I’ll continue to update everyone on my learning adventure and successes. Thank you for following along.
Sincerely,
Justin Ray Norcutt
