Journal Entry

Defined by 11 Seconds

I recently read in a book that Pete Carroll, Head Coach of the Seattle Seahawks of the NFL, was asked about being known as the Head Coach of the football team who made the worst play-call in Super Bowl history (Seahawks vs Patriots–Google it if you are interested). Pete Carroll responded “I will not be defined by those 11 seconds.”

To “Define” something is to mark the limits of or to set forth the meaning of. Those of us who are in, heading to, or have been in Federal Prison will be forever known as “convicted felons”. So……Are we DEFINED or limited to whatever being a convicted felon means? Just because we are required to check a certain box on a job application or public records may show us as such, being a convicted felon does not have to DEFINE us.

I choose to be defined by the work I put in now as a disciplined, hard working, Man of God who is attempting to better himself every day physically, mentally, and spiritually in order to be the best possible husband, father, son, brother, Christian, future employee, and future member of society I can possibly be.

I REGRET my poor decisions that got me a 34 month sentence in Federal Prison but I would not be EVEN CLOSE to the man I am today had it not been for those poor decisions of my past, the punishment I received, and the differences I chose to make.

I WILL be defined by my future actions, not my past mistakes.

Thanks for Reading!!

Love you All!!

I am Fine and I am Safe,
