As I am still at the beginning of my journay, I am signing up for and attending any course or class or meeting I can. Determined to make good use of my time while at Fort Dix Camp
On this day I attended the first of many sessions of Money Smart – Finance Poverty
It’s a FSA required course , for most , but since I haven’t had my first “unit metting” with my assigned Case Worker Ms Zellers, I am not sure if this will be one of my “needs” courses or not.
So in short, I may or may not need to take the 8-10 week class, but trying to engage in any and everything possible to help myself and others
The CO is an awesome guy Mr Durkenburger, US ARMY vet and a guy who really gets it. He asked us what topics we wanted to cover and also told us that there were some mandatory things we needed to cover. The group and the teacher decided that we would be going over several topics including
Stocks
Crypto
Checking and savings accounts
Budgeting money
Interest rates and how they can affect what we buy or what Credit cards to use
Retirement vehicles that we could use to help us save for the future
Real estate ,renting vs buying and how to invest in real estate
Mr Durkenburger asked for volunteers to pick a topic and help teach a class during the length of the course , I raised my hand to handle the real estate portion and indicated that I could assist on most any of the subjects. I know there are others less fortunate then me when it comes to this type of stuff and it makes me feel good knowing that I might be able to give the group a few ideas or vehicles to help them when we get out of this camp.
The class will also go over how to prepare for re entry into the real world and how to prepare to earn when we get out. The hour long class flew by as everyone was dialed in pretty good.
