Journal Entry: Christopher Alexandre Hunter-09/29/2024-Who’s Coming to Prison?

Journal Entry

How much capital will I need to start my transition from prison to society! Well I once heard that most people in America do not have at least $500 in their savings account, and that is with people that have not been in prison. So I know that I will definitely need a lot more. I have to have housing, and the housing market is shaky right now. So I am going to need to get a place for me to start out, that is like $13,200 plus about $3,600 to cover for payment for utilities. I am going to need to get transportation, but that will not be too much of a problem, because I have family members who will help me with a vehicle. But still getting a used car about $7,000 and to pay for gas and maintenance that would cost about $4,800. Clothing, I am going to need work clothes and clothes just for everyday life, and this would include items for my hygiene. So I am that would be about $18,400. It is not like I am going to be able to go to a laundry and pick up a set of 4 pairs of shirts and pants like in prison. I am going to need food, and that is about $10,800. So that is why I have to get ID in order to get a job to get food. And I have been watching the news and notice that food is expensive. There is no chow hall that is going to feed me three meals a day. So I am going to have to pay for living arrangements be it rent or a house note. Transportation, and that is a car note and gas. Food for the month. Clothes for work and for the casual everyday life. Not only that but I am going to need health insurance just in case any medical emergency happens, and that is about $6000. Taxpayers pay to keep me housed in prison about $43,000 per year and that is considering the fact that I am provided the bear minimum for me care. It will take me an estimation of about $63,800-$80,000 for me to transition from prison back into society.
