Journal Entry: Christian D Shelton-10/06/2024-Changing the System

Journal Entry

Today’s question is an two part one:

As for my personal thoughts on how to get more people involved, there needs to be a constant presence of someone who is working close to those individuals who want to work for incentives but have doubts. When participants began actually receiving those incentives and others witness it, it will have a chain reaction more and more people will get involved. One thing that has always had an effect on people in prison is letters. Personal correspondence has always been a big deal in prison. Emails are cool but I think the sender of the email has forgotten about the power of a letter not to mention emails cost (at least for inmates), but a letter is more personal and cost very little. If there were more volunteers who did routine check-ins with participants to monitor progress this would get and help to keep more people involved and at the same time be a big incentive that we don’t have to wait on the system to approve.
