Building a Tribe:
As I am sitting at the table in the dayroom working my program “Preparing For Success After Prison”,
a young man sits next to me and ask me “give me some good advice” at first I am taken back, I am not sure what he is actually looking for, then it comes to me that he is looking for guidance. This is what Mr. Santos refer to as guidance from a Mastermind. Since the young man sees me reading and writing daily and the title of the books has everything to do with getting ready for release, mentally he has placed me in a place of being a mastermind on change. I tell this young man that “the only real problem he will ever have is himself”. I began to explain to him that all of our external problems are a response to how we “respond” to everyday life, and to gain power over our lives we need to start taking actions to be the captain of the ship of our lives. I went on to tell him this is why I have become a student and I community member of Prison Professors Talent and I encouraged him to send a email request to join.
