I am thrilled to report that the Prison Journalism Project (PJP) contacted me on Friday to report that they are close to publishing my first article, Love of Art, on their website.
I also submitted a second piece not too long ago (end of March) and they are interested in this one as well. The second piece was on mass punishment. I had originally written from a vantage point of distance, thinking it would be more universally applied and to be quite honest, while I tried to keep it well written and full of facts, the Editor’s response was not surprising. They contacted me and told me they would like to read directly from my point of view, how mass punishment was affecting me on a daily basis. Now that I have rewritten it from another vantage point, it is much more compelling and I was able to play with the flow to create something sprinkled with facts and information while also dinstinctly personal.
I am much happier with the second version and look forward to the Editor’s reponse to this new version. I can’t wait to hear the first article has been published. I’ll be sure to let everyone know so they can check it out for themselves!
