In what ways can you find coaching strategies from the books you read?
I finished reading “Mindset” by Carol S. Dweck and I learned so much about the fixed and growth mindset. In chapter 5 it talked about the Business Mindset and Leadership. I liked how it touched on research that shows that with the right kind of feedback even adults can be motivated to choose challenging tasks and confront their mistakes. This really interested me as a Peer Success Team Leader. I am constantly looking for ways that I can motivate my team. I like that it emphasized that a growth mindset can be taught. Like through workshops. It was so interesting to learn how the brain changes through learning. That we do not necessarily need to seek out the right person for a job. Training and experience can draw out and develop the qualities required for a successful performance. Maybe sometimes it is better to seek people who are committed to learning and growing. Growth mindset leaders saw future leaders in the making. That is the kind of leader I want to be. I want to be able to empower my team to take initiative and not be afraid. We might need to do more workshops or coaching sessions. I want them to really feel part of the team and collaborate more as a team. I want to be able to give honest feedback and my team be able to grow from it. I want the channels of communication to be open between me and them. More than anything I would like them to grow as people and help their community. This will foster a better living unit and we can be more at peace in our living space. Prison is hard as it is but if we foster a good living enviornment where people are focusing on re-entry and become better people for when they leave this place things could be so different. This book and the insight I have gained by reading it will hopefully advance my Peer Success Teams prospects for success.
