I was in the NRDAP class today, and we talked about how female prisoners are treated during transportation. We are subjected to such cruelty it is a traumatizing experience, and I would not wish that experience to anyone, not even my worst enemy. The bus was originally a male transport vehicle and officers only gave out one toilet paper roll, no female hygiene products. There is the cage in the back where another male officer sits, as he watches the women go to the bathroom through the bars. I was going to a Federal Prison, all the way to Alabama, I am from California, and the ride from Oklahoma to Alabama was the worst 12 hours of my life. It was like a post-prison experience. I helped other women pull their pants up and down. But being a victim of sexual abuse, I refused to use the bathroom myself. I suffered the most painful UTI in my life, and I just turned 48. I was pissing blood clots. There has got to be a more humane way for women to being transported in the BOP. This is one issue among so many issues that need to be resolved. I may be off-topic, but I think this is an issue that needs a remedy.
