I decided to read the story of Will Smith because I wanted to know what it took for him to find so much success from the place he came from which is West Philly. He was raised by both of parents and they had a hard life just for the simple fact that his father was an ex-military guy who liked to drink when he had issues. Those issues led to the things that drinking does to a family when it’s out of control. He was a hard father on the kids so he compensated by always trying to be the funny one to keep the joy in the house. That made him feel like he was responsible when there was turmoil in the house. When Will got to highschool his talents led him to be a rapper and he put in countless hours honing his craft. He ultimately met Dj Jazzy Jeff and they met up by accident. Jeff had a work ethic that Will had never encountered and that motivated him to be even more involved in his craft. They spend everyday after school in the basement of Jeff’s home working on music and recording songs. He eventually decided to tell his mom that he was not going to college so that he could be a famous rapper. She was not happy with that so she spoke to his father and they had a family meeting one day. It was decided that he had one year to become this superstar rapper but if he didn’t then he would go to college. Well the story goes that he ended up doing what he set out to do becoming the first rapper to win a grammy award. It was a big deal. His work ethic led him to starring on the Fresh Prince of Belair. When he eclipsed that goal the next was to be the biggest movie star in the world and that goal he accomplished as well. He didn’t maintain a balance in his life though so his family life suffered. He had put wedges between him and his children as well as his wife. He has continued to be great in his career. He now knows the value of family and time along with commitment. Life is for living and no matter what we have to work hard and tirelessly to get some of the things we want. There are always gonna be sacrifices no matter what.
