2 Chairs By Bob Beaudine Written in 2016

This book sat at the bottom of my commissary bag for months after another inmate in Harris County Jail read it and said I should too. The first 7 pages is praises of the book from a wide range of individuals. The cover says its “The secret that changes everything”. What should have grabbed my attention was Sports Illustrated saying “The most influential man in sports you have never head of.” It did not, I just did not want to read it. I finally picked it up after reading ANYTHING else. It is now one of my favorite books. I called my family and told them to buy themselves a copy and when I got to TDCJ I had my mother send me my own copy.

The premise is you start your day with 2 chairs. You in one and God in the other, have a conversation. Honestly when I first read that I thought it was genius, and I still do, but now it also seems like common sense too. Of course, it’s so simple! Author Max Lucado says “The greatest ideas are the simplest”.

When I started my mornings like this I wondered how I would know when God was talking to me. Actress Lily Tomlin once said “No one is bothered when you talk to God, because that is called prayer, but if you take it a step further and say God talks back you, well that might be going overboard and they call it schizophrenia”. God has always talked to his people. He has not changed. In the book “Experiencing God” it explains that God talks to us through the Holy Spirit using The Bible, prayer, circumstance, and the church. I agree with that but I also think you can have a conversation like two friends would. Why not? If you believe in God, you know He can do anything.

It can be frustrating. You probably won’t get all the answers you want. Sometimes there’s things a man cannot know. King Solomon asked for wisdom to lead his people and then said all his knowledge was a burden.

I don’t just recommend this book to believers. Everyone should read this book.
