My name is Shalisa Harlin, I am 42 years old and try hard to become a strong, successful role model for my peers. I have been a very active individual since I was a little girl. Growing up in a small town with family and friends. I was always very outgoing so I would push myself to being physically active. Doing any and everything I could I started doing gymnastics when I was a teenager. I played softball, went biking, rock climbed, roller blade but gymnastics was my all time favorite, my passion. In junior high and high school I started playing basketball and running track. Doing physical activities is what keep me level and grounded. While in school I tried to strive to be a better version of myself without a lot to do in a small community. Going to school I got my education where I completed and graduated in 2000 diploma in hand. I learned how to lead, how to follow how to work together with others as a team. I was doing well but then when I became an adult choices I made got my life off track onto a windy road. To where I was just going through life on auto pilot day by day paycheck to paycheck. Doing drugs, partying, stealing running the streets living just enough to keep me afloat enough to keep my head above water. To toxic relationships that were not healthy that later on down the road lead to me making one split second choice/decision. That changed my life and the life of others like a chain reaction a ripple. That ended me up with a 14year and 4month prison bid which I never thought I would have. Now since being locked up since 2020 starting my prison bid in 2021 I have strived to better myself and make something of myself. To ge back on track to strengthen my mind by educating to be someone of value.I have taken classes like drug education, k2d awareness, trauma, health and wellness and a healthy balanced lifestyle. I have been getting closer to god gettin back into doing physical activities to keep my brain and body strong and my mind grounded. Now, I feel I want to help others in achieving healthy life goals. Recently, I joined the Peer Success Team at FCI Aliceville and hope to become a mentor and example for many around me, who are struggling. My plan is to do that through programming, educating others, exercise and recreational activities. I have a lot to offer and while I do that. I will continue to grow, to make a successful re-entry into society.
