Biography Entry: Charles Howard Jorenby

I am a 58 year old father of five great kids, only two of which have the same biological parents. This point is important to me, because it emphasizes one of my highest values: family. But this value is also what made me vulnerable (to a degree) for making the decision that I did to be convicted of healthcare fraud. I had been a Licensed Psychologist in the State of Minnesota since 1996. While I worked in a variety of roles (non-profit neighborhood organizations, corporate insurance companies, contract work, etc) my “crowning achievement” was owning and managing my own private practice for nearly 18 years. I provided counseling, therapy, mediation, conflict-management, and psychological evaluations to a wide range of clients. I also had to manage my own business, and developed some basic skills in corporate operations as I had incorporated my practice as an S-Corp. Perhaps not the best format for my line of business, but that decision contributed to the dilemma I placed myself in when I committed my crime. My crime lasted from after my 2nd wife stopped working due to complications from breast cancer, through her death in 2013, and continued until I learned I was under investigation in February 2022. I eventually pled guilty to one count of healthcare fraud and was ordered to pay restitution of a little over $955,000. I was sentenced to serve 24 months in Federal custody on September 22, 2023 and started my incarceration on October 24, 2023.
