Setting a Standard and Developing a Routine
Today is July 13th. I have spent the first 2 weeks of my 60 month sentence at Cumberland County Prison, waiting to be moved to a federal facility. I know the real work will start once I am moved, but I don’t want to waste my time in here either. I have spent the past 2 weeks developing a routine and creating a “Standard of Care”, as my wife likes to call it. This includes the certain daily tasks that I will hold myself accountable to fulfilling each and every day I spend in prison. As of now, my tasks include:
1. write 2 pages minimum daily in my journal
2. complete a workout
3. stay active by getting daily steps in
4. write and talk to my wife
5. participate in a learning activity i.e online courses etc.
It is my plan that having this standard, these tasks, that I will hold myself accountable to daily, will help me to add structure and discipline to my time here. As you may have read in my bio, my passion is bodybuilding and online coaching. Discipline is something that I am no stranger to. I want to use these tools and skills that the bodybuilding lifestyle has taught me in order to create the mindset and discipline I need to do everything possible to reduce my sentence. I have already been a changed man for years now. I want to continue to do what I was doing on the outside in here, and that is use what I have learned to influence others to change their lives for the better. I know I have a long road ahead of me, and a lot of work to do. But, I am ready to face it head on. While being incarcerated was definitely not what my wife and I had hoped for during sentencing, we have chosen to look at this sentence as a step closer to putting my past behind us. Each day is another day closer to freedom, closer to being with my family, and closer to living a life without the possibility of jail time hanging over our heads. I am determined to be productive and do anything and everything I can to shorten that time and burden on my family.
