Today, I write with deep gratitude and reflection on a journey that has only just begun—but one that would not have even started without the support, mentorship, and dedication of Michael Santos and the incredible team at Prison Professors.
Returning home from prison is like stepping into a world that keeps moving while your life stands still. It can be overwhelming, lonely, and confusing. But for me, it was also a moment of awakening—because I had a guide in Michael Santos. Through his books, his courses, his mentorship, and his genuine care, he became the light that helped me see the path forward.
But what truly separates Michael from others isn’t just his story or success. It’s the way he lifts others up without ever handing them anything on a silver platter. When I needed support with furthering my education, he didn’t just point me to a program—he walked me through the process. He taught me how to pursue educational grants, how to structure my learning, and how to take accountability for my growth. He didn’t do the work for me, and I respect him all the more for that. Like the old saying goes: “You can give a man a fish, and he eats for a day… but if you teach a man to fish, he can feed himself for a lifetime.” Michael taught me how to fish, and because of that, I’ve started building a life that sustains itself through education, effort, and purpose.
He’s not just a mentor—he’s a teacher in the truest sense. He gave me access to the tools, but more importantly, he taught me how to use them. He’s always made time to answer my calls, respond to my questions, and offer real guidance without ever making me feel like a burden. That kind of mentorship is rare. It’s authentic. And it’s life-changing.
Without Michael and Prison Professors, I would not be where I am today. I’ve taken baby steps so far—toward education, business, personal growth—and I’m about to start walking. But I know when I start running, he’ll be right there beside me. As I prepare to officially launch my own business, I do so with confidence and clarity, because I know the foundation was built on lessons learned from one of the best.
To Michael and the entire Prison Professors team—thank you. You are transforming lives, one individual at a time. Your mission is bigger than reentry; it’s about redemption and building futures from the ground up. I look forward to our continued work together. I’m ready to stand shoulder to shoulder with you, helping others come home and step into the best chapters of their lives—just like you helped me do.
With deep appreciation,
